Learning Objectives
On completing this course, students should be able to provide a theoretically well-grounded analysis of a concrete case. More specifically, they should demonstrate the ability to:
  • Identify and conceptualize the central communication problem(s) in a concrete case
  • Present a clear and coherent theory about the underlying causes of the problem(s) by drawing upon the scholarly literature introduced in the course
  • - The gist and relevance of the chosen theoretical framework should be explained clearly
  • - The meaning of the key concepts in the framework should be explicated correctly
  • Select, present, and interpret the most relevant evidence from the case, in order to support or refute the proposed theory
  • Reflect on the potential weaknesses of the account
  • Produce good academic writing:
  • - Prose should be clear, accurate, and precise, and relevant terminology should be used correctly
  • - The paper should be structured coherently
  • - References should be provided correctly
