Learning objectives
At the end of the course, the student is able to:
  • apply theories and concepts introduced during lectures to analyze latest technological trends and evaluate their impact on organizations’ competitive and innovative capabilities;
  • assess various technological innovation strategies organizations could adopt to insulate their competitive positions from disruptive market forces
  • utilize software development techniques tools covered in previous semesters or introduced during lectures to aid in the development (i.e., analysis, design, construction and validation) of an original technological product or service application
  • demonstrate the value of the developed technological product or service application in realistic practical scenarios.

In order to participate in the oral exam, the written product must be handed in before the oral exam; by the set deadline. The grade is based on an overall assessment of the written product and the individual oral performance.

Course content and structure
The course exposes students to current technological trends and issues with an explicit focus on IT-enabled business processes.
 
A primary objective of the course lies in the development of an original software / hardware embedded product or service application. This product or service application can be programmed via software tools covered in Ha (IT) training or introduced during lectures within the course itself.
 
Examples of products or software applications that could be developed in the course:
  • Mobile services
  • Android applications (based on XML / Java)
  • Windows applications (based on XML / Java)
 
The course touches on theory-driven innovation in response to latest technological trends. Example of topics covered in the course include the Innovator’s Dilemma, Open Innovation, Platform Thinking, Crowdsourcing and the Development of Mobile Apps.
Teaching methods
Number of Lessons: 30 lessons, 2 hours each

The course is primarily conducted through interactive face-to-face lectures that cover theories and concepts related to strategic management of technological innovations. In addition, lectures will be supplemented with exercises on emerging or prevailing technological innovations in the industry.

Apart from lectures, the course will also leverage on modern e-learning systems for purposes of communication and interaction (e.g., document sharing, discussion boards, blogs and wikis).
