Examination form Oral exam based on written product

In order to participate in the oral exam, the written product must be handed in before the oral exam; by the set deadline. The grade is based on an overall assessment of the written product and the individual oral performance.

Course content and structure
The integraded design course teaches students to find solutions to a pervasive, systemic problems. The appropriate problem solving process requires bringing critical aspects of technical products, natural science, and business management together. The topic for this years' edition of Integrated Design is "Green Innovation in Cities." The course joins students from Ku/Science, DTU and CBS to work on making the urban landscape more sustainable, while at the same time identifying and developing business opportunities and business models.

Key elements of the course are project planning and control, a facilitated design process, and the design solution that you present to external stakeholders at the end of the course. You will learn to distinguish between designerly making and economic rationality, and apply these to to the project at hand.

The course will prepare students to work in multi-disciplinary teams in environments characterized by diverse stakeholder interests and complex problems.
Teaching methods
At the core of this course stands a design project, where mixed teams of students from KU/Science, DTU Mechanical Engineering and CBS independently develop a solution to a wicked problem. The problems are mostly provided by companies. Examples of past case companies are SJ, Coloplast, Novo Nordisk and Roskilde Festival.

Lectures, exercises, and facilitated group work prepare the students for finding a solution to the design task at hand. The pedagogy is studio-based, meaning that it follows a developmental process from briefing to presentation of student solutions and a report writeup. Provided theories and facilitated process mutually inform each other.

Please note that the topic for this years Integrated Design is Green Innovation in Cities. The business, engineering and science aspects of the topic are balanced.
