Learning objectives
To achieve the grade 12, students should meet the following learning objectives with no or only minor mistakes or errors:
  • Content:
  • To write a well-structured and faithful summary in French of a text, that is, a summary that captures the essential points and arguments of the author while respecting the argumentation line and chronology of the text
  • To show a clear understanding of economic institutions and actors in the regions studied, and their implications for competitiveness based on the concepts and themes in the curriculum.
  • To read and understand a written question and provide a written answer in French that is coherent, intelligible and logically related to the question posed. The answer must be a balanced discussion of viewpoints.
  • Language:
  • To write correct French that is making use of the vocabulary appropriate for the topic, cohesive devices as well as avoiding major grammatical, lexical, and spelling errors that inhibit communication.

The exam in the subject consists of two parts:

Description of the exam procedure

The students will do one 3 hour written sit-exam. 40% of the grade is given for the language and 60 % of the grade is given for the content of the performance.

Course content and structure

The overall aim of this course is to deepen the students’ knowledge of the economic, political and socio-cultural context in French-speaking parts of the world, and to strengthen their written communication skills in their chosen language. The specific aim of the course is to develop students’ understanding of globalisation and internationalisation processes and their manifestations in and impact upon national and regional contexts.

 

The course is built up around two dimensions: content and language. The overall aim is to deepen students’ knowledge and understanding of economic institutions, organisations, actors in selected Francophone parts of the world and to strengthen their written communication skills.

The specific aim of the course is to develop students’ understanding of the relationship between economic institutions and actors, and their implications for competitiveness.

 

Topics include key sectors, public-private division, business cultures, management educations and fashions and CSR in selected French speaking countries. What links these cases is that they illustrate different conceptions of how to do business and of the role of business in society.


The language dimension is aimed at improving the students’ written production (grammar and lexical skills, use of conjunctions, and idiomatic expressions) as well as their reading and comprehension.

Teaching methods
Class teaching involving lectures, student presentations, group work, exercises and discussion. All teaching will take place in French and all reading will also be in the language.
