Learning objectives
To achieve the grade 12, students should meet the following learning objectives with no or only minor mistakes or errors:
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the role of creativity for value creation and competitiveness
  • Identify and analyze the nature of competition in creative industries, including the nature of service and consumer markets, customization and experimentation
  • Identify and analyze product development and innovation issues special to creative business processes, including product quality, variety, and novelty
  • Identify and analyze organizational issues special to creative business processes, including project organization, firm boundary problems, networks, clustering and different firm types in the creative in industries
  • Choose and apply appropriate search strategies in order to identify and leverage internal and external sources of creative ideas
  • Choose and apply appropriate strategies for balancing search and legitimacy for incumbent vs. entrepreneurial firms in creative industries
  • Apply strategy analysis related to creative business processes to real-life business cases

Examination form Oral exam based on written product

In order to participate in the oral exam, the written product must be handed in before the oral exam; by the set deadline. The grade is based on an overall assessment of the written product and the individual oral performance.
Individual or group exam Group exam, max. 5 students in the group
The oral exam is individual.
Size of written product Max. 15 pages
If the project is written individually it must be of max. 10 pages

If a student is ill during the regular oral exam, he/she will be able to re-use the project at the make-up exam. If a student is ill during the writing of the project and did not contribute to the project, the make-up exam can be written individually or in groups (provided that other students are taking the make-up/re-exam). If the student did not pass the regular exam, he/she must make a new revised project (confer advice from the examiner) and hand it in on a new deadline specified by the secretariat.
Course content and structure

 

The course lays the foundation for applying business economics method to creative business processes. It defines the categories and issues addressed during the whole CBP. Students are introduced to issues associated with complex economic activities that are typically found in cultural industries and other creative industries. It also provides an overview of the industry structures in the creative industries, with particular focus on cultural industries.

Teaching methods
Teaching will integrate lectures, cases and hands-on practical exercises. Guest teachers from the industry present real life situations for discussion in class. Students are expected to participate extensively in class discussions and to complete assignments.
Further Information

The course consists of 20 classes (16 lessons, four workshops) plus three classes (two case presentations, one lesson) dedicated to the exam project.
