Course content and structure

Many companies and experts approach leadership primarily as a matter of individual competencies, and personal development. This course complements such “leader-centered” approaches with a “leadership-centered” perspective on the interpersonal, collaborative, organizational, and professional dimensions of leadership and talent development. This perspective highlights the strategic importance of HRM practices for promoting strong leadership cultures. Participants will enhance their readiness to contribute to the performance of organizations large and small by exploring key issues and challenges related to organizational leadership, the organizational dynamics of authority and influence, and the ways that effective talent management and HRM practices can help develop and sustain strong leadership cultures.

Teaching methods
The course will focus primarily on the analysis of cases chosen to help develop the ability of participants to analyze and to intervene in social and organizational dynamics of leadership in a variety of different contexts. Classroom time will promote the analysis and discussion of cases and theoretical readings as well as the perspectives and experiences of class participants - high-energy discussion, debate, and interaction. For this reason students are strongly encouraged to bring their own views to the table and to share insights and learning with the rest of the group.
