Learning objectives
To achieve the grade 12, students should meet the following learning objectives with no or only minor mistakes or errors: The student must demonstrate that s/he:
  • Can give a rehearsed presentation on a specific topic concerning culture, society and/or economy using appropriate vocabulary
  • Can make an oral presentation in which her/his viewpoint is clearly stated and put them into a broader context
  • Can communicate without major grammatical, lexical, idiomatic or pronunciation errors.
  • Can auto-correct errors while speaking.
Prerequisites for registering for the exam
Number of mandatory activities: 2
Requirements about active class participation (assessed approved/not approved)
2 in-class oral presentations per student either individually or in groups.

In case the student does not fulfill the requirement of making 2 mandatory oral presentations during the course, s/he must deliver and have approved an essay of min. 800 characters before the exam or else the student is not eligible to attend the exam.

Description of the exam procedure

The exam will be a creative interpretation of the written home assignment category, and will consist of two products:

   - a written manuscript of the student's presentation

   - a video recording of the student's oral presentation (5-7 minutes)

 

The home assignment must be handed in through Digital Exam before the set deadline.

 

NOTICE:

For students enrolled in 2015 or earlier the exam will be held with an external examinator in the study year of 2016/17.

Course content and structure

The focus of teaching is to enable the students to communicate in intermediate Chinese. The text material will deal with socio-economic topics. The course will strengthen vocabulary, textual comprehension as well as spoken competence. Through class activities, the students will practice their oral presentational skills on topics related to syllabus. Students will build upon their vocabulary range to cover more specialized topics related to Chinese society and economy and train the reading of authentic texts.

 

 

Teaching methods
Teaching is student-centered with an emphasis on pair work guided by cooperative learning principles that aim at engaging each student to a maximum extent.
The languages of instruction are Chinese and English.
Active involvement in group discussion and contribution to class activities are expected of all participants.
Teaching is based on textbooks and newspaper articles to promote students’ understanding of different forms of spoken and written language on topics related to Chinese society, economy and culture.
