To achieve the grade 12, students should meet the following learning objectives with no or only minor mistakes or errors: On completing this course, students should be able to provide a theoretically well-grounded analysis of a concrete case. More specifically, they should demonstrate the ability to:
  • Identify and describe communication problems in a concrete case.
  • Analyze and explain the causes of the selected problems by drawing upon the scholarly literature introduced in the course: - Argue for the relevance of the chosen theoretical framework, - Explain and use the theoretical key concepts correctly.
  • Select, present, and interpret relevant evidence from the case.
  • Reflect on the potential weaknesses of the account
  • Produce good academic writing: - Clear, accurate, and precise prose and correct use of relevant terminology, - Coherent structure of the paper, - Correct use of references.

Course content and structure

The course investigates how communication shapes, and is shaped by, various aspects of an organisation, such as its structure or (sub)culture(s) - including classical and human relations approaches as well as processes within the areas of socialization, decision making, conflict management, leadership, technology and organizational change.

In addtion organizational designs in an information processing and communication perspective is investigated

 

The 'Organization and its Communication' course prepares the students for the work as in-house communication specialists in large and small public and private organizations. By focusing on individual disciplines of Organizational Communication and on the interconnections between the disciplines, students are given the tools to act as communication strategists and practitioners towards internal stakeholders.

The course consists of a combination of lectures, discussions, assignments, and exercises.
