Course content, structure and pedagogical approach

The course is expected to run as a collaboration between CBS and University of Copenhagen.

Blockchain, mostly known as the backbone technology behind Bitcoin, is one of the hottest and most intriguing technologies currently in the market. Similar to the impact of the internet, blockchain has the potential to truly disrupt multiple industries by making transactions and processes more democratic, secure, transparent, and efficient. Entrepreneurs, startup companies, investors, global organizations, and governments have all identified blockchain as a revolutionary technology. Building on this vision, students will explore how the capabilities and the underlying mechanism of blockchain can be applied to generate economic and social value. This course highlights the central topics of blockchain and distributed ledger technologies. It is designed to familiarize students with the foundations of blockchain technology and its key application areas from digital assets and supply chain management to decentralized platforms and organizations. In addition, the course seeks to provide hands-on experience in applying blockchain technology to developing novel business insights and turning them into prototypes of innovative blockchain ventures.

The course would also benefit students from Entrepreneurship, Innovation,Service management, and Supply chain management and logistics programs.

Description of the teaching methods
This blended course includes a mesh of lecture presentations and hands-on workshops to practice blockchain application in business and organizational contexts. Teaching is based on project-centric thematic lectures, self-directed exercises, in-class workshops, studio work, field research, and student presentations. The class meetings are interactive and require the attendance and ongoing engagement of the students. Consistent with the flipped classroom model, the time in the classroom will be used primarily to explore topics of interest in greater depth and to create additional learning opportunities building on the assumption that the students are familiar with the core material provided in advance.

***Attending the first class is essential and highly recommended because we will form workgroups and discuss the course project.***
Feedback during the teaching period
Feedback is integrated into every part of the course. The lectures are discussion-based and provide students with a continuous opportunity to engage with the course material and to get immediate feedback in response. The class exercises provide students with feedback on their ability to apply the theory to a class project. Oral class presentations allow students to get feedback on their ability to meet the learning objectives of the course and how to remedy deficiencies prior to the final exam. The instructors will provide further feedback as needed via email and during office hours.
Student workload
Class lectures and exercises 28 hours
Class preparation 56 hours
Group project preparation (per individual in a group of 4) 92 hours
Exam and exam preparation 30 hours
