  • Logically explain concepts and theoretical frameworks regarding the interrelationship between the formulation/implementation of strategies and the international business environment;
  • Critically evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of different strategic choices in challenging international settings;
  • Independently analyse real-world business situations, and articulate and convey well-argued strategies and action plans;
  • Identify potential obstacles to strategy implementation, and propose actions through which these can be overcome.

The course examines the push and pull factors that affect internationalisation of firms and key issues facing multinational enterprises (MNEs). It pays attention to not only strategy formulation and implementation in MNEs, but also to the positive and negative impacts that MNEs might have on host countries. The course considers these topics in the context of complex global value chains and the role of international business in economic development. The course examines business environments through different angles, with special attention to modes of entry into foreign markets.
