- Identify the challenges digital technologies present to
traditional ways of organizing work and structuring
organizations.

structuring organizations as well as the role of organization on
the use of technology.

Description of the exam
procedure
The exam takes the form of an
individual research paper based on a research question of own
choice. As a preparation for the exam the student receives one hour
of individual supervision. Length: 15-20 standard pages.
No pre-requisite is necessary, but attendance at lectures and
active participation in teaching sessions including workshops is
strongly recommended.

Course content and
structure |
The purpose of this course is to
present, discuss, and reflect on the role of technologyin organizations, in terms of both
organizing work and shaping organizational forms. The course
focuses in particular on the consequences of digital technologies
for existing organizations and on the possibilities offered by
digital technologies for new forms of working and organizing. It
takes its departure point of in classical and contemporary
organization theory, with a special focus on technology in
organizations, and investigates how digital technologies have
transformed organizational features and organizing processes.
The course follows three main paths: First, it presents the basic
features of organization, according to classical and contemporary
organization theory; secondly, it takes the students onto a journey
of the progressive transformations of organizations and organizing
processes by digital technologies; finally, it explores cases of
organizations whose processes have been deeply transformed by
digital technologies. |

work, student presentations, as well as oral and written
assignments. |
