Course content and structure | |||||||||||||||||||||||
The focus of teaching is applied language use in order to enable the student to communicate in elementary to lower intermediate Japanese about general topics related to culture and society.
The course will provide a general introduction to appropriate language and formality level governing social interaction. We expand the range of vocabulary and kanji according to syllabus.
Teaching is based on textbooks as well as audio input, and the
student will practice speaking, reading, translation, grammatical
analysis and writing skills.

Teaching methods | |||||||||||||||||||||||
Teaching is student-centered with an emphasis on pair and group work, which will be guided by cooperative learning principles that aim at engaging each student to a maximum extent. The languages of instruction are a combination of Japanese to continuously stimulate and develop the student’s spoken fluency and listening comprehension, and English when studying grammar and translating texts. Translation is trained to foster and develop grammatical accuracy. Active involvement in class activities as well as timely preparation for class is expected of all students. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
