Course content and structure

This course explores issues in organization design using both classic and contemporary theories. When looking around the world, one can find very different organizations, designed on highly divergent principles, succeeding in both national and international markets. While this shows that there is no single best way of designing and managing an organization certain approaches clearly work better in particular circumstances. This course analyzes how different organizations have dealt with diverse issues, as well as the pros and cons of their decisions. Its aim is to help students understand different approaches to organizational design. To illustrate the theories and facilitate student learning many practical examples and cases will be discussed. For the preliminary assignment students will prepare a write-up titled “What sort of organization would I like to work in?”
