Learning objectives
To achieve the grade 12, students should meet the following learning objectives with no or only minor mistakes or errors:
  • account for key concepts, theories and perspectives in Organizational Behavior and Corporate Communication
  • demonstrate the ability to use them in analyses of relevant business/organizational issues
  • demonstrate the ability to discuss their interconnectedness and to critique assumptions underlying the course material as well as own assumptions
  • account for key concepts, theories and perspectives in Organizational Theory/ Organizational Behavior and Corporate Communication

In order to participate in the oral exam, the written product must be handed in before the oral exam; by the set deadline. The grade is based on an overall assessment of the written product and the individual oral performance.

The examination is based on the syllabus read in the course and the synopsis. Students can write the synopsis individually or in groups of maximum five students.

If the synopsis is not submitted at the appropriate time, it will be regarded as non-appearance.

The student makes a short oral presentation of approximately 2-3 minutes on the synopsis at the examination. The student may bring the synopsis and notes in the form of key words, which is not to exceed more than one A4 page. The examiner can ask clarifying questions during the presentation. Building on the presentation, the examination then takes the form of a discussion between the student and the examiner.

Course content and structure

The aim of this course is to provide students with:

  • relevant theories, concepts and models within the field of organisational theory and organisational behavior,
  • perspectives and models related to the design of organisational structures,
  • theoretical and practical knowledge about how organisations communicate internally and with the external environment, and how they organise themselves in order to communicate more effectively (as well as for other organisational purposes), and
  • the ability to critically reflect on the theories, concepts and models and their relevance in describing, analysing and evaluating issues of organisation and corporate communication in relation to companies and organisations.

The course focuses on two main fields:

  • Organisational theory
  • Corporate communication
Teaching methods
The course is based on lectures, discussions and group work. It will include corporate speakers, case presentations and mini-assignments with focus on application of concepts and theories - and the use of theories on given cases for analytical purposes .
To prepare for the exam, students have the opportunity to collect a portfolio of presentations and deliveries made in class:
Students will be assigned to a group/case and is expected to make four deliveries based on given themes/issues related to their case (i.e. leadership, power, organisational design, communication/​culture/​change management) .The delivery is in the form of 3 minute presentations and/or A-4 paper hand-ins which will be scanned and up-loaded following the exercise class on the intranet/Learn.
