Learning objectives
To achieve the grade 12, students should meet the following learning objectives with no or only minor mistakes or errors: After having followed the course the student should be able to:
  • Assess the strengths and limitations of different qualitative methods when applied to a given research problem
  • Discuss when and why it is relevant to use qualitative methods in the analysis of business organizations, political institutions and their environments
  • Apply qualitative methods to the study of interactions between business, national and international political institutions and non-governmental organizations and account for the relationships between a research problem, theory, method, data collection and analysis
  • Demonstrate applied skills and apply methodologically informed analysis to the study of business organizations and political institutions
  • Critically reflect on how to analyze and report qualitative data and assess their validity and reliability

A new exam assignment must be answered. This apply to all students (failed, ill, or otherwise). The retake exam is an individual exam of 10 pages.
Course content and structure

This course provides the students with an understanding of how to conduct, analyze and report qualitative research in the context of economic and political organizations. The course introduces qualitative case study designs and focuses on how to produce, analyze and write up qualitative research using different methods, such as discourse analysis, interview methods, observation techniques and content analysis. The course discusses how to assess data reliability and validity including how to triangulate data from different sources and combining different methods. 

Teaching methods
The course will be based on lectures, group and plenary discussions and exercises. Practical hands-on experience through student exercises and active involvement in class activities will be the key way for students to acquire the skills outlined in the learning objectives.
