Course content and structure | ||||||||||||||||||||||
The course gives the students the ability to understand the main economic dynamics of European integration, and the ability to analyze those dynamics using economic and strategic management theories. The course is focused on three key themes of the economics and business strategy of European Integration. Firstly, after an introduction to EU history and institutions, the course focuses on the economics of EUs Economic and Monetary Union, paying particular attention to issues related to monetary and fiscal policies, as well as the macro-economics of banking union and financial markets. Secondly, the course will examine the economics of the Single European Market, EU’s competition policy and EU’s external trade; which constitute key areas of European economic integration. Thirdly, the course focuses on business strategies, opportunities and risks in the context of European integration and its external dimension. After a quick overview of most relevant strategic management models, the course takes the retailing sector as an example, and analyses strategic responses of specific firms, both in European and non-European markets, paying particular attention to the institutional frameworks within which those strategies have been developed. |
