Learning objectives
To achieve the grade 12, students should meet the following learning objectives with no or only minor mistakes or errors: At the end of the course, the participant should be able to:
  • use a variety of leadership theories to analyze practical leadership dilemmas, with specific attention to relational and contextual dimensions,
  • critically reflect on the merits and constraints of various leadership theories and approaches,
  • reflect on one's own leadership role in specific situations, including personal abilities and preferences,
  • explore practical leadership possibilities through reflection and experimentation in practice, thereby connecting strategic orientations and interpersonal interactions.

In order to participate in the oral exam, the written product must be handed in before the oral exam; by the set deadline. The grade is based on an overall assessment of the written product and the individual oral performance.

A written case assignment based on a case or a subject chosen by the teacher. The assignment must be formulated and given to the students at least nine days prior to the expiration of the deadline. It should be 10 pages long and submitted to CBSLearn. The exam is held internally, and the assignment is put forward and assessed by the relevant faculty.

Alternative examination format: The make-up/re-examination will be held as an oral examination if the number of registered candidates for the make-up examination/re-take examination warrants that it may most appropriately be held as an oral examination.
Description of the exam procedure

Oral exam based on a written synopsis. 

 

The synopsis should include material from at least 2 reflective sessions evidencing challenge to and potential development of their own understanding of the challenge. 

Course content and structure

In everyday operations, as well as in changes and transitions, leadership is a central element. Through leadership, direction established, followership is mobilized, and progress achieved and monitored. The popular distinction between management and leadership differentiates between routine operations and changes, and is at times interpreted as if these are two very different roles, perhaps enacted by different individuals. This, however, is highly debatable. Change without attention to detail and without knowledge of what is changing rarely succeeds, and everyday operation demands constant adjustment and development, to be effective.

 

Not least in the contemporary turbulent business environment, the ability to reflexively orient oneself in relation to the situation and context is critical for successful mobilization of various resources, to move the organizational agenda forward. As part of the leadership process, the practical process of strategizing concerns the ongoing negotiation and development of a viable direction for collective action.

 

In this course, the concept of leadership will be explored from a variety of perspective. Rather than proposing a single understanding of leadership, we will orient ourself in, and apply a wide range of approaches, on a theoretical as well as a practical level. The course is designed to develop your leadership capacities by engaging with practical challenges, but also to widen your understanding of the phenomenon of leadership on a theoretical level, facilitating navigation in a constant stream of leadership fads.

The course is structured in 10 sessions, where each session is focusing on a specific topic.
Feedback during the teaching period
The Feedback
Feedback is given to the student together with the grade when written and oral exams have been evaluated.
Half way through the course you have the possibility of handing in a preliminary version of the leadership challenge, along with preliminary analysis, reflection, and actions tried (maximum 5 pages), and get teacher feedback on this. The hand-in and feedback process is managed through Learn.

The evaluation
At the evaluation unit at CBS’s Economic & Analysis department we ask you to evaluate the overall course. In other words if there has been exercise classes and lectures the evaluation should include both. We evaluate every course and faculty to secure and strengthen the professional level of the offered course.
