Description of the exam procedure

The purpose is to write a report, which reflects your internship experiences based on one or more theories and / or concepts from the previous classes in the BSc International Shipping and Trade program.

The maximum number of pages is 20 per student and in order to help you with the content of the report I suggest the following structure:

Motivation

App. two pages when describe briefly your company, internship, tasks and which concepts and/or theories you have chosen. Motivate this choice and it can be done in two ways: empirical and theoretic

RQ

The most important is to keep in mind that the internship report in problem-based. Think carefully about how you can phrase the Research Questions (RQs). I suggest that the first question is descriptive in nature and concerns and overview of your relevant experiences (relevant to the following analytical why question). That leads to a division between a initial descriptive question, followed by an analytical question based on a “why” question.

Key-words (definitions based on RQ)

The next section concerns the definition of the key words in the RQ. In this section you can provide an overview of the theories and or concepts which you have decided to use including a discussion of the background and scientific setting of the concept / theory.

Section based on RQ1: Your experiences

App. 5 pages description of your experiences. This empirical section is the foundation for the following

Section based on RQ2: The Analysis

Remember that the analysis is the section based on the why question and it can build on the insights of the descriptive question.

Conclusion

Important here to answer your research questions.

Course content and structure

The purpose of the internship is to develop the students’ both practical and theoretical understanding of the maritime companies, and how the students might contribute to innovation and development of the business of the maritime companies.

CBS-staff offer two dimensions to the internship:

  1. What is mentoring?
  2. What is problem solving?

Ad 1: What is mentoring?

The purpose with this dimension is to ask the student to see what mentorship is about. How can the student learn in the internship, if he/she sees him/herself as being in a mentorship-relation with the company?

We ask the student to see him/herself as a mentee having a mentor. The purpose of the mentee is to interview his/her mentor in the company. We give you an article by Harvard Business Review which both mentor and mentee is kindly asked to read and discuss. The student is asked to interview the mentor about the question of mentorship.

The video is uploaded to Peergrade to be discussed between the students in week.

Ad 2: What is problem solving?

The handin will be focused on problem solving. The student will together with company identify a problem that they want to be analyzed by the student. The teachers, Filipe Leal and Mathilda Jakobsen will teach the students a method for problem solving
