Description of the exam procedure

Every project needs to have a project agreement that includes a project description as well as an approved E-Business supervisor.

The project agreement must state:

-    an E-Business topic area/field chosen by the student (B, T, P).

-    a name and email of a supervisor who has explicitly agreed to supervise the students

-    a specific (empirical or theoretical) area or phenomenon of research

-    a motivation for choosing the area/field, e.g. grounded in literature

-    a research question

-    an overview of the methods that are deemed appropriate to answer the specific research question

If the final ("handed in") project departs significantly from the description in the original project agreement (e.g. domain, theory, approach), the reasons for this must be accounted for in a short section or paragraph in the project report.

The project agreement must always be approved by the acting project coordinator who acts on behalf of the study board.

Contact the supervisor/s personally (and early in the process) and make sure that you have an explicit acceptance before you invite a supervisor. It is highly advisable that students plan all supervision meetings early in the contact with the supervisor, due to time constraints.

The project must be handed in with the official CBS front matter.

The examination is an individual, oral exam based on a written group project. 20 minutes are allocated to each student. This includes deliberations between examiner and external examiner as well as feedback and change over. The exam typically begins with a short presentation by the student (3-5 minutes). The student can bring any kind of relevant material to the exam, but cannot read aloud from a manuscript.

Course content and structure

The overall purpose of the project activities in the M.Sc in E-business is to work with a problem chosen by the student him- or herself, which falls under the general objective of the programme and provides the student with basis for progress towards the thesis work.

The project activities thus provide an opportunity to prepare for the master thesis. Furthermore, the idea behind the 22,5 ECTS E-Business projects is to use them in a cumulative way, so that the student may, for instance, form a business idea in the first project, plan how to carry it out in the second project, and execute the plan in the third project.

It is important that the project activities during the 2nd and/or 3rd semester are used for information retrieval and work towards the identification of the thesis subject.

The P discipline (covered by P-courses) include topics concerning law, policy and regulation aspects.

A project that meets the policy/law requirements may include reflections and disciplined analyses of the ways law (national as well as international) impact the individual and organizational use and business application of digital technologies. It may also reflect on ethical, moral or other regulatory aspects.

In any case, it is important that the P-project has business relevance, broadly defined as per the overall E-Business programme. The report must thus include some considerations of the business/organizational aspects and implications of law and regulation.
