Course content, structure and pedagogical approach

The course introduces students to basic descriptive and inferential statistics for communication research. Bi-weekly lectures take on topics such as measures of central tendency and variance, correlations, hypothesis tests, analysis of variance, and network analysis. They are paired with exercises in statistical computing relevant to communication research. The exercises make use of open-source software R.

Description of the teaching methods
Lectures and hands-on exercises in statistical computing using R.
Feedback during the teaching period
Feedback on exercises, feedback on mid-term exam.
Student workload
Lectures 16 hours
Exercise classes 14 hours
Preparation 176 hours
Total 206 hours
