In order to participate in the oral exam, the written product must be handed in before the oral exam; by the set deadline. The grade is based on an overall assessment of the written product and the individual oral performance, see also the rules about examination forms in the programme regulations.

The re-take exam shall be based on the original project as the ordinary exam:

*if some of the group members fail the original exam: the re-take exam will be held as a group exam with the failed group members and based on the original project, which must be resubmitted.

*if the whole group fails: a substantially revised and improved version of the original project must be handed in.

Make-up exam due to documented illness at the ordinary oral exam: an individual oral exam (30 minutes per student) based on the original project.

Make-up exam due to documented illness and unable to participate during the writing of the project: an individual project must be submitted followed by an individual oral exam.
Description of the exam procedure

A correctly filled out registrationform for the Bachelor Project including names of supervisor and groupmembers must be uploaded. For more information please see the Bachelor Project Manual.


The exam must be handed in through Digital Exam before the set deadline.


The final project must include an executive summery (1 page).


The oral exam is max 1 hour total exam (including votation) per group.

For the oral exam the group should prepare a brief presentation of approx. 3 minutes per students ( 5 minutes for individual projects), following the presentation there will be a discussion and questions from the examiners regarding both the presentation and the written project.

Course content, structure and pedagogical approach

In the bachelor project students demonstrate their unique qualifications obtained during all four years of undergraduate studies. The bachelor project deals with research questions related to International Business (IB) in an Asian context. This allows for empirical analyses at the level of the firm, industry, technology, or economy in the context of economic, political, social, or cultural conditions for international business in Asia from a comparative perspective, or within China or Japan specifically. In this framework, we encourage research which deals with societal challenges such as climate change, green transition, sustainability, digital transformation, inequality, or migration. The projects use one suitable and specific theory or conceptual framework from International Business, Marketing, Organization, Corporate Finance, and Political Economy to investigate the proposed research question(s). The project must develop a coherent research design applying rigorously either quantitative or qualitative methods. The empirical analysis can be based on secondary data, primary data, or a combination of both. The students need to consider the validity and reliability of their analysis. This should reflect students are not only analytical with data but also aware about of its limitations and the ambiguity inherent to its interpretation. Finally, projects discuss the findings in the light of relevant academic literature, formulate empirical, theoretical, and, if applicable, managerial contributions as well as acknowledge limitations of the research undertaken. We encourage students to make use of their advanced Mandarin or Japanese language skills to access and exploit data or literature in the corresponding languages during the research process.


At the start of the project, students are to develop a short research proposal (2 -3 pages), which summarizes and clarifies: preliminary title, research question(s), relevant theory or conceptual framework, discipline, research approach, proposed methods for data collection (including possible sources) and analysis, as well as potential ethical considerations. This serves as a basis for the initial discussion with the selected supervisor.

Description of the teaching methods
Introductory lectures are given.

Approximately 3 weeks before hand-in a bachelor student conference is held. It is intended to help students to critically reflect upon the content and set-up of their thesis, allowing them to practice presenting the main ideas of their thesis to an audience talking about methodological, theoretical and analytical matters in a coherent way. All students are expected to participate in the bachelor student conference.
Feedback during the teaching period
Feedback is a main part of the sessions between the project group and their supervisor through the project process.

Supervision hours are offered in connection with the course during the semester and cannot be automatically transferred to the re-take period.
