Learning objectives |
To achieve the grade 12, students should meet the
following learning objectives with no or only minor mistakes or
errors:
- Identify thecore concepts in macroeconomics and international
trade theories and models
- Apply relevant theories and models to the study of global trade
flows
- Analyze developments in macroeconomics and international trade
drivers
- • Discuss, present and explain how such developments influence
shipping markets from a shipping operator's
perspective

Course content, structure and pedagogical
approach |
The course Macroeconomics and Trade will introduce the
students to the fundamental theories of Macroeconomics,
International Trade and Trade Policies and apply these theories to
global trade flows and trade developments. The lectures on the
structure and dynamics of international trade models provide the
backbone for the following class discussions on shipping trade
flows of goods and how economic and political changes alter these
flows.
The content of this course overarch macroeconomy, international
economy and international trade aspects in an attempt to provide
the students with a better understanding of the diverse set of
factors influencing the short and longer term demand for shipping
services.

Description of the teaching methods |
Eextensive use of short 3-5 minutes video
recording and slide presentation made by the lecturer and dedicated
to the group assignments on various cases. This recording will
include an introduction to the assignments, the guidelines for
working with the assignments and a short walkthrough of a case
assignment example and how a presentation could be conducted.
Within groups the students are then expected to discuss the given
cases and make a similar video recording of their presentation.
These student group recording are to be viewed and discussed in
following classes. Each group of 4-5 students are expected to make
2 recordings on 2 different case topics during the course. These
group discussions and presentations enhance the students
understanding of the specific case topics and the relation to the
macroeconomics and international trade models related to the
course.
Additionally recordings related to the presentation of selected
Macroeconomic and International Trade models and their dynamics
will be developped. Such recordings will be readily available for
the student following the related lectures and hence provide for
easy revisiting for enhance understanding or the
students. |
Feedback during the teaching period |
As part of the exam, students shall write three
graded individual home assignments. The teacher will provide oral
feedback to each assignment during classes. .
