“[T]he world is flat, and anyone with smarts, access to Google and a cheap wireless laptop can join the innovation fray,” declared Thomas Friedman. Undoubtedly, entrepreneurs confront an increasing array of choices regarding global markets. They select locations for their activities across the globe, make choices on outsourcing and ownership modes, manage organizations and processes across borders, or develop online platform businesses. At the same time, a completely borderless world remains an illusion. Entrepreneurs, who want to internationalize successfully, need to pay attention to the sustained differences between countries when developing and evaluating their strategies.
The course introduces the (still emerging) field of international entrepreneurship research, including emerging market entrepreneurship and online business. It discusses frameworks for identifying and taking advantage of the opportunities presented in a dynamic global environment. The five online modules highlight different types of entrepreneurial opportunities and how to best pursue them, drawing from entrepreneurship research, strategy, entrepreneurial finance and management. They equip students with tools and frameworks to assess global opportunities, avoid common mistakes and execute a truly international strategy. Based on real-world business cases, the course analyzes the entire process of international entrepreneurship from idea generation and prototyping to harvesting value and exit option.
The course targets students who plan to become involved with global entrepreneurial ventures in the role of founders/CEO of international ventures, partners of global startups (e.g. within established corporations), international investors and consultants.
Throughout the course, open research debates in this fairly young and still emerging research field will be highlighted to show opportunities for impactful master thesis research. The course is part of the series Advanced StudiesOnline Electives. It will be taught entirely online; presence in Copenhagen is not required and students study the material at their own schedule. |
