Re-take exam if ordinary exam is failed: The retake examination is based on the same written product (‘research proposal’) as the original exam. However, at the retake you need to submit a revised version addressing the feedback and comments on the original product as provided by the examiners at the ordinary examination.
Make-up exam when ill for the ordinary exam: Written product (‘research proposal’) submitted upon a the deadline specified for the retake.
Course content, structure and pedagogical approach

This course provides students with an introduction to the fundamentals of research design and methodology, selected qualitative research methods, and academic writing. The study of the material will allow the students to understand how methodological tools are used in research design and how applied in research projects. Students will develop a research proposal in the area of IB in Asia. This includes competences such as formulating a research question, conducting a critical literature review, working towards a suitable conceptual framework, creating a research design including thoughts for collecting and analysing relevant data. The course focuses in particular on interviews and surveys as qualitative research methods.

Description of the teaching methods
Teaching consists of lectures, workshops, and feedback sessions. Lectures focus on introducing the basic of research philosophy and design, as well as data gathering and processing methods. Workshops provide practical insights about how to use CBS library resources as well as how to use specific software applications for qualitative data analysis and online surveys. We use feedback sessions as exercises during which study groups present and discuss the progress of their research proposal. We apply blended learning by combining on campus teaching elements with online elements (videos, online peer review platform).
Feedback during the teaching period
Student groups receive continuous feedback in the four dedicated feedback exercise sessions for the development of their research proposal over the whole course. These sessions are a crucial element for students to learn how they can meet the specific learning objectives of this course. We also practice peer feedback in the exercise sessions. Feedback by the teacher will always complement peer feedback. Study groups or individual students can also make use of the ‘office hours’ provided by the course coordinator. These never substitute for participation in lectures and exercises, but are a forum to discuss urgent issues regarding study group dynamics, lack of progress, individual learning challenges, etc. In the course examination, students receive feedback from the internal and external examiners, which serves as the starting point for the "Research Project - IBA" (4th Sem) course.

Please note that this course builds on theoretical concepts and frameworks introduced in "Introduction to International Business in Asia" in Semester 1 of the BSc International Business in Asia (IBA) at CBS. The research proposals developed by groups of students in this course can be implemented in the "Research Project - International Business in Asia" in Semester 4 of the BSc International Business in Asia. We encourage that study groups formed during the 1st Sem continue their collaboration in this course. However, non-IBA students can also take the course.
