Course content, structure and pedagogical approach | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The aim of this course is to understand and to analyze firms operating in the sport sector and their business environment. Sport is not only a relevant sector for the economy of developed countries, but it has also an impact on the culture of a society. Furthermore, sport firms and their business environment are characterized by peculiarities which can be answered employing the basic principle of business and economic tools.
The course can be divided into three parts. The first part of the course analyzes analogies and differences of the sport business with respect to other traditional sectors. The concept of sport leagues, the difference between sport and economic results, the role of stockholders and the influence of advertising and media will be studied. The second part deals with leadership and team management. Finally, the third part shows new issues that are affecting professional sports, such as internationalization, difference between American and European models and teams’ accounting. A particular emphasis will be given to Scandinavian cases. |

Feedback is provided in numerous ways throughout the course: During office hours, we can discuss particular problems and give advice on individual academic development questions. During classes, we will discuss the different topics. |

3-week course than cannot be combined with any other course.
The course coordinator will upload a Preliminary Assignment on Canvas at the end of May. It is expected that students participate as it will be included in the final exam, but the assignment is without independent assessment and grading. |
