Learning objectives
The purpose of the internship is to introduce the student to global logistics and/or supply chain management in practice. .
  • Identify a relevant logistics/SCM problem in practice demonstrating an understanding of the internship host's role and position in the supply chain.
  • Discuss and apply relevant theory and methodology for a theoretical analysis of the practice problem.
  • Present a solution and/or perspectivation of the problem to the internship company in a professional manner
  • Present reflections on how to work professionally in an organization

Compulsory home assignments
Students will need to make a presentation of their internship in class and get feedback. from the peers. There will two sessions and they need to pass one of them.

The student will not be offered any extra activities prior to the ordinary exam in the course. If the student did not have approved by the teacher the number of required compulsory activities, the student cannot participate in the ordinary exam – not even if the student can document illness. One exam attempt will be used nonetheless. Prior to the retake exam in the course, the student will be offered one extra assignment; but only if the student participated in all offered compulsory activities during the teaching or if the student has documented illness. The extra assignment is: a x5 page home assignment ( methodology paper on the report), which will cover the required number of compulsory activities. If approved, the student will be able to attend the retake exam.

Description of the exam procedure

The internship report will be prepared during the internship. The report must be organized as an academic report with problem discussion, research question, research design, theory and methodology followed by analysis and conclusion as well as a recommendation for practice, ideally the internship host. The problem addressed can supplement the bachelor thesis work but should be delimited in relation to the thesis. Important is a process description which shows students' reflections on the internship.

 

The report should demonstrate ability to argue for choice of theory, methods and empirical data. Finally, an understanding of strenghts and weaknesses of the analysis should be included in the report.

 

Beware that the internship is mandatiry and an integrated part of the programme.
Course content, structure and pedagogical approach

The internship will train the student in the role of a "reflective intern". This means that on one hand the student will participate in supply chain, logistics and business related issues and on the other hand reflects upon the concrete professional, organizational, theoretical and personal aspects and conditions for practical problem solving.

 

The internship will provide the students with a strong professional foundation and network upon which they can build their career and personal development.

 

The internship should be used to reflect on how theories, models, concepts and methods learned in their tri-continental program can be applied in practice. This means that during the internship the student, on one side, will experience the usefulness of theoretical concepts and tools and on the other, the limitations of theory when applied to practical problems.  

 

The student gets a chance to demonstrate a problem-oriented mindset in order to identify the challenges in a company dealing with practical logistics and/or SCM.The student will participate in a proactive way in the daily life of the company. 

 

During the internship, there will be two mandatory, virtual mutual feedback session with CBS student peers as well as course coordinator.
Description of the teaching methods
Two virtual seminars. Students present their work as well as experiences in 5 Powerpoint slides for each session. Each presentation will be discussed by the student peer group as well as course coordinator.

Feedback will be given in the virtual seminars.
