Learning objectives |
The BLC master’s thesis candidate will
demonstrate an ability to:
- Define and justify a focused research question related to
companies and organisations in an international/intercultural
context.
- Conduct a review of literature relevant to the field of
research and position the research within that literature.
- Select, critically assess, and apply theories and frameworks of
relevance to the field of research.
- Develop, enact, and critically assess research methodology,
including research approach, strategies and choices, data
collection and analysis, and philosophy of science position.
- Reflect on the internal coherence and external validity of the
research.
- Conduct appropriate analyses leading to a well-reasoned answer
to the research question.
- State and discuss the implications and contributions associated
with the thesis findings.

Oral exam based on written product
In order to participate in the oral exam, the written product
must be handed in before the oral exam; by the set deadline. The
grade is based on an overall assessment of the written product and
the individual oral performance, see also the rules about
examination forms in the programme regulations. |

Max. 120 standard pages for a two-person thesis,
80 pages for a solo thesis, and 160 pages for a three-student
thesis. An individual thesis is allowed but not recommended. A
three-student thesis requires a dispensation. |

The student’s spelling and writing skills are taken into
consideration in the overall assessment of the examination
performance, but the academic content is given the highest

Regulations regarding the summary |
The thesis must contain an abstract or executive summary
written in English. The abstract or executive summary forms part of
the overall assessment.

Same examination form as the ordinary exam
If the student has submitted their
thesis, but is ill at the oral defense, a new defense will be
arranged as soon as possible based on the thesis already submitted.
If the student receives a non-passing grade at the regular exam,
they have used an exam attempt. It is then a requirement that the
Master’s Thesis contract is renewed, i.e. the student must further
clarify their original topic delimitation, which must then be
approved by the thesis coordinator.

Course content, structure and pedagogical
approach |
The master’s thesis is normally the last step in a graduate
course of study. It is an original research inquiry within the
scope of the programme, based on appropriate social science
research method, and reporting research question resolution with
discussion of broader contributions, if any. Orientation sessions
and various workshops are offered in support of all facets of the
thesis process.
The purpose of the master’s thesis is for the student to develop
and manifest the ability to design, conduct, report, and defend a
graduate level research thesis. The general focus of the BLC
master’s thesis involves a defined international and/or
intercultural issue relevant to companies and organizations.
