Description of the exam procedure

4 hour written final exam.

 

 

Course content, structure and pedagogical approach

Content:

Advanced topics in financial reporting, including:

  • Long term liabilities
  • Leases
  • Stockholders’ Equity
  • Dilutive Securities and Earnings Per Share
  • Statement of Cash Flows
  • Revenue recognition
  • Financial Reporting of Income Taxes
  • Accounting for changes and error corrections

Structure:

  • Focus on US GAAP – Emphasis on Liabilities and Stockholders’ Equity
  • Use “real world” practical examples to illustrate reporting practice
  • Re-emphasize financial statement impacts of transactions
Research-based teaching

Description of the teaching methods
The teaching sessions comprise lectures and class discussions as well as practical exercises. Problems and exercises are at times given for homework and to be included as a part of class discussions. There will also be problems sets issued throughout the term to solidify student understanding and thus prepare students even better for the final examination.

Precourse activity: 

The course coordinator uploads precourse activity on Canvas at the end of May. It is expected that students participate as it will be included in the final exam, but the assignment is without independent assessment and grading.
