Learning Objectives
The learning objectives of this course are to continuously develop communicative competences in Japanese writing and reading. The students should be able to 1) read about specialized topics concerning culture, society and economy and put them into a broader context 2) write compositions/reports in a variety of forms (i.e. formal emails/letters, opinion letters, essays, CVs etc.)

The end-of-course winter exam is taken by duly submitting three written assignments during the fall course. In order to pass Japanese 3, all assignments must be graded as pass by the instructor. Dates and formats will be announced in the syllabus in the beginning of the fall semester

Course Content

Requirements: students must have passed Japanese 2 or the equivalent to enroll in this course. They are expected to have a lower-intermediate level of Japanese.

Teaching is based on textbooks and supplementary materials about more specialized topics related to Japanese culture, society and economy to enhance the students reading and writing skills. Our focus is text comprehension and production.

Teaching Methods
Teaching methods are comprised of plenary sessions and group work in ongoing dialogue with instructors. The languages of instruction are Japanese supported with English. Active involvement in class discussion and activities is expected of all participants, so students should come to class prepared to take part.
