Learning Objectives

The learning objectives of Japanese 4 are to continue to develop communicative competence in Japanese speaking and reading. The students should be able to 1) give a rehearsed presentation on a specialized topics concerning culture, society and economy, 2) put them into a broader context 3) debate and sustain a dialogue on familiar topics from syllabus.

The end-of-year summer exam is a 30 minutes oral exam without any preparation time. It consists of two parts:
1) A power point presentation in Japanese on:
a topic chosen from syllabus.
two or more texts from syllabus
2) Discussion in Japanese taking the presentation as a starting point. It should ideally include other texts/topics from syllabus. |

Requirements: students must have passed Japanese 3 or the equivalent to enroll in this course and are expected to have an intermediate level of Japanese. Teaching is based on textbooks, newspaper articles and films to encourage students to understand and interpret different forms of spoken and written language on topics related to Japanese culture, society and economy. |
Teaching Methods
|
Teaching methods are comprised of plenary sessions and group work in ongoing dialogue with instructors. The languages of instruction are Japanese supported with English. Active involvement in class discussion and activities is expected of all participants, so students should come to class prepared to take part.
