Learning Objectives | |||||||||||||||||
The learning objectives of this course are to continuously develop competences in Japanese speaking, listening and reading comprehension. The students should be able to 1) give a rehearsed presentation on a specialized topics concerning culture, society and economy, 2) put them into a broader context 3) debate and sustain a dialogue on familiar topics from syllabus. | |||||||||||||||||

Course Content | |||||||||||||||||
The focus of teaching is to enable the students to communicate in intermediate Japanese on socioeconomic topics. The overall aim of the course is to build on the students’ vocabulary range about more specialized topics related to culture, society, and economy and train the reading of authentic texts. | |||||||||||||||||
Teaching Methods | |||||||||||||||||
Teaching methods are a mix of lectures and group work guided by cooperative learning principles that engage each student to a maximum extent. The languages of instruction are Japanese and English. Active involvement in class discussion and activities is expected of all participants, so students should come to class prepared to contribute. Teaching is based on textbooks, newspaper articles and film clips to encourage students to understand and interpret different forms of spoken and written language on topics related to Japanese culture, society and economy. | |||||||||||||||||
