Course Content
|
A core theme in supply chain management is integration of supply chains and processes. One size does, however, not fit all chains and industries. The aim of this course is to develop students´ competencies in identifying, analysing and discussing supply chain strategies and their relevance in a specific situation. The students will further be able to evaluate supply chain strategies, prerequisites and their comparative pros and cons in relation to a concrete context.
Based on a conceptual discussion of what supply chain strategy is and how it relates to corporate strategy, the course will discuss the general issues and concepts inherent in any supply chain strategy. These concepts and issues are responsiveness versus efficiency, speculations versus postponement and integrations plus limits to integration. Then supply chain strategies are discussed from a process perspective. After discussing the general issues inherent in any supply chain strategy, various designs of supply chains are presented and discussed. Such designs include lean supply chains, agile supply chains and mass customization. The course concludes by discussion the spatial aspects of supply chains and how especially globalization impacts present and future supply chain strategies.
