• Opportunity Recognition – Making the link between the technology and the market opportunity (or its application) taking care to go beyond the most obvious uses; conceiving of attractive applications (looking beyond the initial context) • Defining the commercial potential – developing a business concept, qualifying the business idea and strategies for interessement; analyzing the industry; the market; competition analysis; team and network analysis; • Constructing a portfolio to optimize return; Preliminary introduction to Intellectual Property Rights in relation to Commercialization strategy • Business models – Designing an appropriate business model to take the particular technology to market; tangible business models • Intellectual Property (IP) & Regulations – The Concept of intellectual property; developing IP strategies; industry regulatory framework • Demonstrating – Entrepreneurial product development model; factors that affect the new product development process; prototyping for participatory dialogue; measuring success and risk • Market development – The nature of high-technology markets; technology adoption cycle ; qualifying customer needs; determining a market approach; pricing high-technology products; promoting high-tech products; developing a marketing plan • Financing Technology Ventures – Risk and stages of funding ; sources of funding ; the cost of raising capital; technology valuation • Business plan – why write a business plan; foregrounding and backgrounding (what to include and emphasize in the business plan) • Communicating and mobilizing to attract complementary assets – The pitch, effectively communicating the business idea to stakeholders to attract needed resources |

Each groups are supposed to keep a log recording how the cooperation works between the DTU and CBS-students. | |||||||||||||||||
Course content | |||||||||||||||||
This course integrates with the Danish Technical University (DTU). The course serves two main objectives. First, the output from the course is a business plan that is developed together with CBS- and DTU students that eventually can serve as the basis for contacting professional people. Second, there is an academic objective qualifying each student in the entrepreneurial activity. Students from DTU have many ideas for high-concepts that need to be framed and evaluated in a business-context. Cooperation is required between the competences that DTU and CBS represent in order to develop a high-tech concept into a business plan strong enough to attract and create interessement in a wider network. Teaching will be both at CBS and at DTU. The teaching follows a lesson-format of 2 sessions based on the curriculum and 2 sessions that include participation from professional(s) with an experience in that particular area. These two latter sessions also serves a networking opportunity. |

Teaching methods | |||||||||||||||||
The format is twofold. Traditional lecturing and practice. As the purpose of the course is also to develop an actual business plan, the academic learning must be put into practice. Moreover, the group work constitutes in itself a part of the learning process and the students are required to keep a log recording how the cooperation between the two competence areas (DTU and CBS) develops. |
