Description of the exam procedure
The exam will consist of analysis of social entrepreneurship/innovation case  where students will be expected to apply their understanding  of the theoretical models and research from the course, as well as their experience from their SEIC-EP project or similar practical projects concerning planning, implementation, impact, and scalability.  They will also be expected to critically examine relevant models, theories and practices relevant to the problem at hand as illustrated in the case.
Course content and structure
The elective "Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation theory (SEIC-T) aims at  providing a comprehensive and contemporary introduction to the principles of social entrepreneurship and innovation.  After introducing the most common definitions of the concepts, you are encouraged to take on a critical view in assessing its role in economic development, CSR and in affecting social change.
Subsequently, different types of social business models, start-up strategies and public/private sector support for social entrepreneurship are analyzed. Throughout the course, real case studies from Denmark are interchanged with cases from e.g. South Africa to demonstrate the diverse application possibilities of social entrepreneurship. This also allows you to assess its various forms of impact on society, education and economic development.
The elective is developed complementary to the very practical elective "Social Entrepreneurship  Project" (SEIC-T) and while this elective is complete in itself, you should consider taking both during the same semester. Together these two electives provide the participant with the introductory theoretical knowledge and basic practical skills needed for an aspiring social entrepreneur, CSR manager or socially responsible  entrepreneur or enterprise owner.
Teaching methods
Teaching is a combination of lectures and two essay assignments that measure the student’s progress. During the course, case discussion sessions will take place during which students will be divided in smaller groups. The students are required and expected to prepare for the sessions as well as interact during the discussions. Additionally, during some classes, virtual interaction with South African students is expected to take place.
