Course content and structure
The main purpose of the course is to harness the educational value of direct interaction between students and real-life cases and practitioners in service organizations. Using problem-based teaching techniques, the course will give the opportunity for students to work together with public organizations, businesses and professional service institutions, to identify opportunities for innovation. For example, challenges related to the shortage of resources or the excessive amounts of wastes generated during the provision and consumption of products and services will be used as a starting point for developing innovative concepts. Using theoretical knowledge and practical skills learnt throughout previous courses in the program, students should be able to develop the new concepts into viable business propositions. The course-work could serve as a starting point for the thesis project.
Teaching methods | |||||||||||||||||||||
The approach of this course will be
“action research” or “problem solving teaching” with the total
interaction-time divided between class activities and time spent
with a selected case company. Students will be distributed in
groups and will select their case from a pool of volunteer
companies (identified by CBS staff). The course includes three
blocks: Introductory block, case work, reporting block. The first
and last blocks are taking place in the class, while the case work
will be organized by students themselves, together with their
cases.
The course will end with an “expo” session where student groups will present their results as posters in an open space, where companies and CBS staff will be present as audience. |
