Course content and structure
This course critically examines aspects of equality and inequality in all areas of life but particularly in the workplace. Discrimination happens in many aspects of our life and work. Certain forms of discrimination may be deemed to be acceptable, but others are not, and been made unlawful. Differences between people, and our perceptions of the significance of these differences, have important personal, organisational and social implications. This course provides an opportunity to consider the ethical, behavioural and institutional processes underpinning the need to ‘mange diversity’ and the effectiveness of strategies deployed to make the workplace more ‘equal’.  Topics addressed include for example:
  • Theorising workforce diversity
  • Diversity in a organsational context
  • Types of discrimination in the workplace
  • Legal framework for diversity
  • Trade unions and diversity
  • Equality and diversity policy and practice in organisations
  • Diversity in a European context
Teaching methods
The course will consist of lectures, case discussions and workshops. Active preparation and participation are expected from the students.
Further Information
