Learning objectives |
The student must demonstrate the ability to:
- Give a rehearsed presentation on a specific topic concerning
culture, society and/or economy using appropriate vocabulary
- Make an oral presentation in which her/his viewpoint is clearly
stated and put them into a broader context
- Debate and sustain a dialogue on topics from syllabus
- Speak a grammatically correct and well-pronounced Japanese,
i.e. avoiding major grammatical, lexical, idiomatic or
pronunciation errors that inhibit communication. At this stage, the
students must demonstrate a linguistic awareness by auto-correcting
errors as they speak

Oral exam based on written product
In order to participate in the oral exam, the written product
must be handed in before the oral exam; by the set deadline. The
grade is based on an overall assessment of the written product and
the individual oral performance. |

Description of the exam
procedure
Please note that 2-3 weeks before the
exam the students must hand-in the synopsis as a power-point
presentation. A synopsis is generally defined as "a short
written presentation to serve as a basis of an oral
examination".
The oral exam consists of the following 2 parts:
The oral examinations has two parts:
- Oral presentation of the power point show (5-7 minutes)
- A discussion in Japanese with the examiner. The discussion will
be based on the PPT-presentation and then evolve into a general
discussion about other topics from
syllabus.

Course content and structure |
The focus of teaching is to enable the students to communicate
in intermediate Japanese. Textbook will deal with topics of a
socioeconomic content. The course will strengthen vocabulary,
textual comprehension as well as spoken competence. Students will
expand their vocabulary range to cover topics related to Japanese
culture, society, and economy.

Teaching methods |
Teaching is student-centered with an emphasis on
group work, which will be guided by cooperative learning structures
that aim at engaging each student to a maximum extent. The
languages of instruction are Japanese and English. Active
involvement in group discussion and activities is expected of all
participants. Teaching is based on textbooks, newspaper articles
and audiovisual material to promote students’ understanding of
different forms of spoken and written language on topics related to
Japanese culture, society and economy. |
