Learning objectives |
- Content:
- present a well-structured summary of text excerpts and
establish links between the topics and concepts raised in the text
and the region-specific political, economic and social features
introduced in the course literature of the 1st and 2nd semester,
and
- identify and describe key institutions, moments and figures in
the regions studied.
- Language:
- communicate in sufficiently coherent Spanish so that the
responses are intelligible
- using appropriate Spanish vocabulary, and
- speak in grammatically accurate and well-pronounced Spanish,
that is, avoiding major grammatical, lexical, idiomatic or
pronunciation errors that inhibit communication. At this stage,
students should be able to show some degree of linguistic awareness
by beginning to correct their errors in the exam
situation.

Examination |
The exam in the subject consists of two parts:

procedure
The students will do one oral exam. 40% of the grade is given
for the language and 60 % of the grade is given for the content of
the performance. - The examination is oral and based on the material from the
first and second semesters.
- At the exam, the student will draw a page from the 200-page
exam syllabus and has 30 minutes in which to prepare a summary of
the text and discuss it in terms of the overall context of the
curriculum and of the specific topic that it addresses.
- This is an open-book examination, meaning that students have
the opportunity to consult reference works, class notes and
dictionaries during the preparation session.
- Two grades are given: one for content and one for
language.
- Grades are given according to the 7-point grading scale by the
teacher and an internal examiner.

Course content and
structure |
The second semester of Spanishstudies builds on the knowledge
acquired during the first semester, with a particular focus on
culture and communication in Spain and Spanish America. Course
topics include: culture in its national, regional and local
expressions, the culture ‘industry’, and the role played by ICTs
and the information society in cultural and political modernisation
processes and governance.
The course builds on the themes presented in the first semester
Globalisation Studies course. The themes are presented in
conjunction with perspectives and concepts rooted in the specific
language area, so that students develop an understanding of
different theoretical traditions, and enhance their nationally
specific knowledge as well as their cultural
sensitivity

Teaching methods |
All teaching and reading will be in
Spanish. A combination of lectures, class discussions and student
presentations will develop students’ knowledge and ability to
analyse and understand current cultural and social processes in the
chosen region. |
