The course presents and discusses central
thinkers in the history of Western social sciences, political
theory, and ideology. It covers normative and analytical or
theoretical ideas about individuals, society, economy, government,
and the state from antiquity to the contemporary world. Focus is on
the origins of contemporary political ideas and on the trajectories
of the specialized modern social sciences with a special emphasis
on the evolution of, and the disciplinary divisions between,
