Learning objectives
In order to be awarded the highest grade (12) the student would have to fulfill the following course objectives:
  • To present and explain the main concepts and theories from the course related to service development and design.
  • To critically examine the benefits and limitations of concepts and theories included in the course.
  • To identify and apply the correct theoretical perspectives included in the course to selected cases of service organizations.
  • To provide arguments in support of their selection of theoretical perspective in the analysis of selected cases.
  • To identify and explain the benefits and challenges of service development in service organizations.
  • To discuss the validity, reliability and scope of generalization of conclusions drawn on the basis of an analysis.

In order to participate in the oral exam, the written product must be handed in before the oral exam; by the set deadline. The grade is based on an overall assessment of the written product and the individual oral performance.

The oral exam is individual.
Size of written product Max. 20 pages
The project size should be:
• 1 student: max.10 standard pages
• 2 students: max.15 standard pages
• 3 students: max. 20 standard pages

Make-up examinations are given as an individual oral exam based on the group project.
Re-take examinations are given as an individual oral exam based on the group project handed in for the regular examination, as well as a supplementary piece, max. 5 standard pages in length.
Description of the exam procedure
The final exam is a group project which Is also ending 2nd year.
The project will be followed by an individual 20 minutes oral exam which takes its point of departure in the group project but also to relations to theory and models from syllabus. The individual assessment is based on a combined evaluation of the written group project and the individual oral exam
Assessment. The student’s linguistic abilities may be included in the evaluation of the project. This evaluation is an overall evaluation of the academic content including the student’s ability to spell and write, taking into account that the academic content must be given preference. The individual assessment is based on a combined evaluation of the written group project and the individual oral exam.
Course content and structure
This course provides students with the competence required to understand innovation processes and manage change processes in service organizations. Through a series of lectures and real-life cases, the course will provide students with theoretical knowledge required to identify innovation opportunities, as well as the rigorous practice of step-by-step process of designing new value propositions. Taking a starting point in understanding customer demand as an input to the innovation process, the course will explore and discuss the process of user-driven innovation and co-creation. Besides learning new skills, students will be expected to use knowledge from previous courses on service economics, marketing and management studies.
Teaching methods
The teaching sessions will normally be divided between lectures and class discussion. The sessions have been designed to facilitate active class participation by using classroom clickers, student presentations and the proportion of time allocated to lectures.

The Study Board each year publishes the 2nd Year Project Guidelines, which supplements the Program Regulations and serves as a teaching aid for the Project. The Manual provides detailed information about Project requirements and deadlines, as well as practical suggestions and advice regarding the Project experience and proper use of a Project Adviser. - The Project Guidelines will be available at the BSc SEM e-campus (in the menu under Exam > Exam guidelines)
