Course content and structure |
IB55 is your introduction to IBS. IBS takes the multinational
firm as its centerpiece, examining the strategic choices firms need
to make to compete in the global economy. In doing so, the
programme takes a holistic view of the international business
environment, in terms of the trade, competition and investment
milieu, which in turn are determined by the policies and
regulations established by governments and supra-national
organisations. Furthermore, IBS seeks to highlight the specific
challenges associated with managing multinational corporations in
markets that are explicitly international and increasingly
interdependent.
International Business is a programme that explicitly focuses on
creating a crossdisciplinary understanding. This course is a
“sampler” of the programme. The aim of the course is to provide
students with an understanding of international business,
furnishing students
with the necessary background theories and concepts that they will
need during the programme. It will focus on providing a ‘toolkit’
to students of frameworks, theories and concepts that will
facilitate understanding of the complex environment within which
the multinational corporation operates. This includes international
business and political economy, government policies and
regulations, and culture, all of which
make up IBS.
