Course content and structure | |||||||||||||||||||||||
This course will provide you with frameworks and practical tools
for reading financial statements and assessing the business
standing of firms. At the end of the course, you will be able to
critically review the information in financial disclosures, and use
this information to gauge firms’ performance. In class, we will
discuss reporting and analysis concepts, and apply them in case
studies and on market data.
Class 1: Introduction to the income statement and balance sheet. Analysis of profitability
Class 2: Construction of financial statements
Class 3: Accruals versus cash flows
Class 4: Revenue recognition, and matching of expenses
Class 5: Cash flow statement
Class 6: Student presentations feedback activity: Analysis of financial statements of a firm
Class 7: Operating assets
Class 8: Debt and liabilities
Class 9: Off-balance sheet liabilities
Class 10: Owner financing
Class 11: Forecasting financial statements and valuation |
