To achieve the grade 12, students
should meet the following learning objectives with no or only minor
mistakes or errors: By the end of this course:
- The student should be able to discuss the development of
HRM.
- The student should be able to account for major analytical
concepts in HRM.
- The student should be able to discuss the imapct of HRM
policies and practices on employers and employees.
- The student should be able to critically discuss key concepts
in HRM in relation to a given issue.

Course content and
structure |
The management of people is a key concern for organisations. In
this course the devlopment and menaing of human resource management
(HRM) are explored.
The aims of the course are:
- to provide the student with a critical understanding of theory,
policy and practices in the field of human resource
management;
- to develop an appreciation of the major current themes and
debates in the field of HRM;
- to give the student an understanding of the main concepts and
models that under pin human resource management;
- to present a critical assessment of the relationship between
theory and practice in human resource management in contemporary
workplaces;
- to assess political factors that shape human resource policy
choices;
- to develop an understanding of human resource management
policies and practices in organsiations; and,
- assess the problems associated with the design and
implementation of HRM policies and practices, as well as their
impact on employees.

Teaching methods |
The course will consist of lectures,
case discussions and workshops. Active preparation and
participation are expected from the students. |
