Learning objectives
To achieve the grade 12, students should meet the following learning objectives with no or only minor mistakes or errors: The overall aim of the course is to provide students with capabilities that make the value of strategic procurement visible to corporate management and further create the basis from changing the procurement organization from a tactical to a strategic level. Specifically, the learning objectives of the course are the following:
  • Explain how procurement knowledge and competences can be developed, managed and integrated into corporate strategy.
  • Apply relevant sourcing tools and processes and discuss its effects on supplier relationships and the sourcing process.
  • Explore change management concepts and theories in a procurement organization in order to resolve concrete development issues.
  • Reflect on leadership roles and values in strategic procurement.
  • Communicate results to stakeholders.

In order to participate in the oral exam, the written product must be handed in before the oral exam; by the set deadline. The grade is based on an overall assessment of the written product and the individual oral performance.

Course content and structure

The course sets out with a discussion of the paradigm shift in the prcurement literature towards strategic procurement and how that effects the procurement organization, its relationship to other functions, as well as the value creation provided by procurement. This requires development of organizational and individual skills which come next followed by a discussion of change management in relation to strategic procurement in particular. The course also touches upon the different ways of organizing the procurement function.The course concludes with a section on leadership issues including values, ethics and sustainability.

Teaching methods
Dialogue lectures and student presentations with focus on communication to management.
