Course content and structure

The course aims to serve as an integrator of knowledge and insights from all SOL mandatory courses and their application to concrete situations from practice, collecting and analyzing data, as well as discussing implications, recommendations, and limitations. An additional, equally important agenda, is to raise the students’ appetite for and provide them with experience in conducting research that could subsequently support their their Master thesis efforts.

Teaching methods
The course aims at helping students develop knowledge and practical skills that are needed for designing, conducting and delivering a Master level research-based project on topics and situations related to strategy, organization, and leadership. To assist students in reaching critical milestones in the project’s development, it is organized in four modules. These modules focus on key stages in students’ work on the project, e.g.: (1) research design and question; (2) methods for data collection; (3) methods for data analysis, and (4) reporting findings. Each module is conducted in an intensive format of class hours and consists of a lecture that introduces key notions on the topic, discussion of one or more examples that illustrate how the topic can be carried forward in practice, a workshop during which project groups seek to apply the ideas that have been introduced and discussed to the realities of their projects, and team presentations on project progress to obtain feedback. Pre-assignments are non-mandatory; they allow to develop the project at a steady pace through feedback at critical junctions of the process.
