Submission of 2 small compositions in Japanese on CBS Learn according to previously announced deadlines. Must be re-submitted until deemed 'approved' by the instructor. In case the student does not fulfill the requirement of having submitted the 2 mandatory written compositions during the course, s/he must deliver and have approved an essay of max. 800 characters before the exam or else the student is not eligible to attend the exam. |

Course content and structure | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
The focus of teaching is applied language use in order to enable
the student to communicate in lower intermediate Japanese about
general topics related to culture and society. We
continue to work with translation as a tool to ensure reading
comprehension, and continue to expand the range of vocabulary
and kanji.

Teaching methods | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
Teaching methods consist of
pair/group work monitored by the instructor, and individual writing
and listening exercises. Learning is based upon cooperative
learning principles to facilitate equal participation and
simultaneous interaction and to ensure each student’s maximum
output during class time. Our methods of instruction also involve
e-tivities (online activities) to train in-depth translation
skills.
Teaching is based on textbooks as well as audio input corresponding to an intermediate level. The languages of instruction are Japanese to continuously stimulate and develop spoken fluency and listening comprehension, and English to talk about grammar and to translate texts. |
