Learning objectives
To achieve the grade 12, students should meet the following learning objectives with no or only minor mistakes or errors: The aim of the course is to enable the students to analyse a firm’s profitability, growth and risks, calculate and interpret financial ratios that describe a firm’s economic well being and demonstrate the ability to value firms using different valuation techniques. Upon completion of the course the student should therefore be able to:
  • read and understand a financial statement (annual report)
  • conduct a profitability analysis using financial ratios
  • conduct a growth analysis using financial ratios
  • conduct a liquidity risk analysis using financial ratios
  • prepare pro forma (budgetted) statements (income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement) which articulate
  • estimate firm values
Course prerequisites
Students are required to have had an introductory course in financial accounting and a reasonable knowledge of corporate finance.

Make-up exam/re-exam
Same examination form as the ordinary exam
If the number of registered candidates for the make-up examination/re-take examination warrants that it may most appropriately be held as an oral examination, the programme office will inform the students that the make-up examination/re-take examination will be held as an oral examination instead.
Description of the exam procedure

PC exam on CBS computers with e-hand in.
The paper has to be handed in as a PDF file.
It is not allowed to bring your own PC and printer.
No access to the internet and LEARN.
Before the exam starts information can be uploaded from a USB-key to PC, then the USB-Key should be put away during exam.

Course content and structure

Research and theory based lectures are mixed with exercises and cases. Lectures provide the students with the necessary tools to make financial analyses and valuation. Through cases the students learn how to apply theory and use a variety of decision models used in practice.

The course’s development of personal competences:

Candidates are trained in presenting solutions to a variety of real life business cases, including valuation, based on financial statement analysis.
