Learning objectives |
To achieve the grade 12, students should meet the
following learning objectives with no or only minor mistakes or
errors:
- Describe and critically discuss key theoretical and practical
perspectives on the challenges of leading, managing, achieving
results and developing talent in organizations
- Define leadership, define organizations, and describe the
interrelationships between the two in both theoretical and
practical terms. Compare and contrast your definitions with key
conventional and critical alternatives.
- Compare and contrast the relative merits of conventional
managerial and leader-centered approaches versus process relational
approaches to leadership and organizational behavior, as well as
the relative strengths and weaknesses of leader development versus
leadership development.
- Evaluate the benefits and drawbacks of relevant models and
theories on how motivation, work orientation, emotions, team
dynamics, diversity, power, politics and organizational culture
affect individual and organizational performance.
- Apply these theories and insights to the analysis of a variety
of cases and organizations that exemplify how to (or how not to)
promote and to adopt leadership and leadership development
practices that support the strategic objectives of the organization
while also respecting the values and interests of organizational
stakeholders and constituents

Course content and structure |
The course will focus primarily on the analysis of cases chosen
to help develop the ability of participants to analyze and to
intervene in the social and organizational dynamics of leadership
in a variety of different contexts. Classroom time will promote the
analysis and discussion of cases and theoretical readings as well
as the perspectives and experiences of class participants -
high-energy discussion, debate, and interaction. For this reason
students are strongly encouraged to bring their own views to the
table and to share insights and learning with the rest of the
group.
