| Learning objectives |
To achieve the grade 12, students should meet the
following learning objectives with no or only minor mistakes or
errors: After having completed the full year course the student:
- Can translate texts of the same level as curriculum from
Chinese into English
- Can construct simple sentences applying the correct grammar and
actively use vocabulary from curriculum
- Can engage in basic dialogue coping with straightforward
questions related to everyday topics.
- Can pronounce without major errors
- Can correctly read, write and understand all characters from
curriculum

However, at all
written sit-in exams the student has access to the basic IT
application package (Microsoft Office (minus Excel), digital pen
and paper, 7-zip file manager, Adobe Acrobat, Texlive, VLC player,
Windows Media Player), and the student is allowed to bring simple
writing and drawing utensils (non-digital). PLEASE NOTE: Students
are not allowed to communicate with others during the

appropriately be held as an oral examination, the programme office

procedure
The curriculum corresponds to the entire textbook material from
Fall semester. The exam consists of 4 parts: - Dictation using the characters studied during the semester
- Reading aloud and translating a text excerpt from syllabus
- Grammatical questions
- Talking about a picture and conversing in Chinese
The grade is based on an overall assessment of all 4
disciplines. |

| Course content and structure |
|
This course is part of the propaedeutic year at ASP.
The intro course is an intensive course that provides knowledge of
the basic elements with regard to syntax, grammar, and
colloquial speech. The course will help the student build a basic
vocabulary enabling him/her to communicate in basic everyday
Chinese.
The course offers classes in various linguistic disciplines such as
grammar, speaking, listening, writing, reading, and
translating into English.Teaching is based on textbooks as well as
audio inputs corresponding to a beginner's level.

| Teaching methods |
Teaching methods combine lectures and group work
guided by cooperative learning principles that engage each student
to a maximum extent.
The introductory course is a demanding full-time study. Active
class participation is expected. We warmly encourage the students
to form smaller study groups. |
| Feedback during the teaching period |
Weekly tests provide the students with regular
feedback and with opportunities to in a timely fashion to realize
whether they have gaps in their knowledge of Chinese language.
Feedback is further offered in response to your questions and work
whenever feasible although please appreciate that there are often
time constraints. Please feel free to take full advantage of the
‘office hours’ offered by full-time staff members, although these
can never be a substitute for participation in lectures and
classes. We also encourage you to ask questions or make comments in
class and form self-study groups to secure peer feedback on your
work. |

This course is part of the propaedeutic year at ASP. Both
Chinese Intro 1 & Chinese Intro 2 must be passed before
matriculation to Year 1 at ASP.
