Learning objectives
To achieve the grade 12, students should meet the following learning objectives with no or only minor mistakes or errors:
  • Demonstrate understanding of various national developments in the new EU Member States, including the impact of past political, social and cultural conditions for regional and local development.
  • Analyze regional and local institutional networks (good governance). This involves identification of individual and collective action constructed via values, identities, knowledge, and former processes of socialization.
  • Conduct case-based studies providing institutional understanding for economical conditions, including policy formulation and measures to promote development in the context of regional- and local levels.
  • Analyze an individual identified problem field relevant for community development and public-private partnerships and provide plausible methods and recommodations.

Description of the exam procedure

A final written test will be based on an individual case study prepared as a homework assignment by the student.

 

Max. 10 pages for an individual topic identified by the student.

 

Each student is entitled to one hour of supervision while preparing the case-study. This will be agreed individually with the teacher.

 

The paper is to illustrate that the student can independently comprehend and can carry out a chosen topic relevant to the course study.

 

 

 

 
Course content and structure

 

The course will provide knowledge of various developmental legacies in the newer EU Member States, including the impact of past political, social and cultural conditions for regional and local community development. In addition, the course analyzes the meaning of adequate governance structures and institutional setup for public-private partnerships.

 

The course will proceed with shorter lectures, but implies involvement and active student participation, including development of oral group presentations based on the identification of problem field.

 

The students choose a written problem-based assignment which they have to conduct at home. The assignment involves review of the course literature and empirical evidence related to the course's subject. The assignment is based on individual chosen case.

 

During lectures it will be discussed how criteria for an academic paper can meet adequate requirements.

 

It is a prerequisite student participates actively throughout discussions and review of course literature, including critical reflection of fellow students presentations and identified subjects.
Teaching methods
Lectures will be based on shorter lectures to facilitate a common reference. Students are expected to participate actively in discussions related to their own and fellow students’ presentation.

The training focuses on case-based studies. The students must present their selected analytical problem within relevant disciplines with subsequent panel discussion.
Feedback during the teaching period
Students will recieve oral feedback from the lecturer and fellow students while presenting their chosen topic.

As part of the academic paper the students will recieve written remarks.
